Evening of audiovisual performances by Brandon Tani and a n n a exploring memory, perception and the unseen patterns that shape everyday life.
Brandon Tani and āññā bring their audiovisual work to Bread & Salt Art Gallery on Friday, October 16, as part of The Salty Series. Both are San Diego artists, and the evening is built around two separate performances that share a focus on memory, perception, and the unseen patterns that shape everyday life.
Tani's piece, the oil pumps line up at night like sleeping whales, pulls together field recordings, electroacoustic feedback, and video montage. He describes it as a meditation on landscape, history, and the tension between the personal and the political. The title gives you a sense of the imagery—industrial machinery seen as something organic and resting—and the sound follows that same line, blending recorded environments with electronic processing.
āññā is the duo of Anqi Liu and Han Zhang. Their approach is more tactile: they merge live electronics, DIY biosignal and sensor-based instruments, real-time visuals, and sculptural materials. They describe the result as dreamlike environments where sound, image, and gesture become inseparable, so the performance is as much about the physical movement and the objects on stage as it is about the audio. Between Tani's field-recording-based work and āññā's sensor-driven setups, the two sets approach the same themes from different angles—one looking out at the landscape, the other building a space around the performers.

It's a night of audiovisual performance rather than a traditional concert, so expect the visuals to be as central as the sound. The show starts at 7:30 PM at Bread & Salt Art Gallery, and tickets are $15.
