Indie rock performance by The Back Alley at the Casbah venue in San Diego.
The Back Alley play Casbah on Saturday, November 6, at 8 PM. They're a high-powered Chicago indie rock quintet that grew out of Ralph Porter's solo project, and they've been playing together since 2022. Porter is on lead vocals, Jaden Cone on guitar, and Ben Kremer on drums, with Sal Defilippis and Hunter Olshefke — both from Ax and the Hatchetmen — rounding out the lineup.
If you're just getting to know them, the band made a pretty clear pivot from bedroom pop to guitar-heavy rock with their debut EP, Live From Picture-Minded Studio. Since then, they've played Chicago rooms like Lincoln Hall and Park West, and built their following on songs like "Your Love," "Flower Girl," "Gump," and "Lightning." They picked up national recognition with the 2024 singles "Grey Skies" and "Brand New," and they're currently a rising name in the Midwest indie scene.

This is part of a US tour that brings them through Madison, Birmingham, and Charlotte around the San Diego date, so the Casbah show is one of their West Coast stops. The set will draw from that guitar-driven sound they've been leaning into since the EP, and it's a good chance to hear them live if you've only had the singles on repeat. The show is at Casbah, 2501 Kettner Blvd, and it starts at 8 PM on Saturday, November 6.
