Mexican American artist Lila Downs celebrates Día de Muertos with a live performance of rancheras and original songs from her album 'Cambias mi Mundo'.
Lila Downs brings Día de Muertos | Cambias mi Mundo to the Balboa Theatre on Thursday, October 29, just a few days before the holiday itself. She'll be performing with her band, and the set is built around her 2026 album Cambias mi Mundo (You Change My World).
Downs is a Mexican American artist from Oaxaca and one of Latin America's most influential voices—a GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY winner who's played venues like Carnegie Hall and is known for a commanding voice and a magnetic stage presence. The show blends the essence of Cambias mi Mundo with the traditions of Día de Muertos, pairing the album's most acoustic and intimate original songs with personal renditions of classic rancheras. She sings in Spanish, English, and the Indigenous languages of her native Oaxaca, and the set explores the love, loss, reconnection, and joy at the heart of the holiday. The audience is invited to dance and come dressed in imaginative Día de Muertos attire.
The Balboa Theatre is a historic spot for it. Built in 1924 as a vaudeville and movie palace, it reopened in 2008 as a community performing arts center after more than $26 million in restoration. It's located at 868 4th Ave. in San Diego, CA 92101.
