Concert by Edgar Alejandro, a Mexican musician who fuses jazz, bossa nova, and bolero with a mariachi base, performed with Los Tranquilos.
Edgar Alejandro plays the House of Blues San Diego on Friday, October 16, with Los Tranquilos. He's a 24-year-old composer, musician, and singer from Guadalajara, Mexico, now living in Loma Linda County, less than an hour from Los Angeles. He started singing at age three and wrote his first song at 13, and he comes from a family of mariachis.
Alejandro plays guitar, vihuela, trumpet, bass, and a little piano. His music builds a mariachi base and layers jazz, bossa nova, tumbado, salsa, and bolero over it, all carried by a high, solid vocal tone. His repertoire reaches across Regional Mexicano — sierreño, norteño, banda, and mariachi — and into Latin jazz, Latin pop, and bolero. On the night, he'll be backed by Los Tranquilos.
