Concert by the ska punk band Authority Zero at The Holding Company in San Diego.
Authority Zero play The Holding Company on Sunday, December 20, starting at 4 PM. They're a ska punk band from Mesa, Arizona, and they've been at this for more than a quarter of a century.
If you're not familiar with them, the sound is a mix of punk, ska, reggae, surf-rock, prog-metal and even jazz—all rooted in the local club scene. They got their start playing five-for-$5 shows at Mesa venues like the Niles Theater, where self-released demos and EPs caught the attention of KEDJ the Edge and led to a signing with Lava/Atlantic. Their 2002 debut, A Passage In Time, sold more than a quarter million copies worldwide, with airplay hits like "One More Minute" setting the template: a dubwise reggae beat topped by frenetic punk choruses and an art-metal interlude.
