Your First 5 Showcase

Your First 5 Showcase is at Wiseguys Comedy Club on Thursday, Nov 19, at 7 PM. The show is built around the students of Your First 5 Minutes, a class that puts people on stage for their first-ever stand-up sets. They had their first run at Wiseguys on October 29, and this is the next one.

To give you a sense of where these people are coming from: six weeks before that first night, most of them had never even held a microphone. By the time they stepped up, each one performed a full original set in front of a real crowd, with special guest comedians joining in. This showcase follows that same format, with the students taking the lead. The organizers bill it as a full show, not a recital, so it's a night of stand-up rather than a classroom demonstration.

It's happening in The Rickles Room, the smallest of the three rooms at Wiseguys SLC. It's an intimate 80-seat showroom named after Don Rickles, and it's where the club often gives young, up-and-coming comics their first headlining opportunities and the creative license to produce and host their own shows. It also hosts a mix of local and national acts, so it's a room that sees a lot of different styles of comedy.

The Rickles Room is at The Gateway, 190 South 400 West in Salt Lake City, and it's 21+. The show starts at 7 PM on Thursday, Nov 19.
