Day of panels with horror and romance writers and vendor tables at Church and State, part of the Utah Humanities Book Festival.
Utah Horror and Romance Day returns to Church and State on Saturday, October 24, from 2 PM to 8 PM. It's the second year for the day, which brings together horror and romance writers for a full afternoon of panels and vendor tables. The whole thing is run by Utah Humanities and sits inside the Utah Humanities Book Festival, the state's oldest and only statewide book festival.
The festival itself has a long history here. It started in 1998 as The Great Salt Lake Book Festival, a one-day event at Westminster College with 30 authors. Since then, it's grown into a multi-week affair that partners with libraries, community centers, and cultural organizations, reaching more than 12,000 Utahns every autumn. Horror and Romance Day is one of the specific dates within that larger calendar.
This year's lineup features guests Erika K. Wurth, Kiersten White, and Sarah Hawley, with five panels running back-to-back. It kicks off with Kiss Me or Kill Me: When Horror Meets Romance at 2:15 PM, followed by Red Flags Are Just Flags (When He's Hot) at 3:15 PM. Sex Death & Everything in Between comes in at 4:15 PM, Anatomy of Yearning at 5:15 PM, and Who Would You Rather | Horror Edition at 6:15 PM. Between the panels, there are vendor tables to browse, and the doors open early, so you can get there before the first panel starts.
