Free evening of short films by local Latine filmmakers, including 'Mucho Mucho, Siempre Siempre' and 'SOMEHOW', with a Q&A moderated by Alex Vejar.
The Utah Film Center hosts another edition of the Utah Filmmaker Showcase on Wednesday, October 28, from 7 PM to 9 PM. This one is presented by The Artist Foundry, and it's titled Nuestra Voz: Local Latine Stories.
The showcase is a recurring program at the center that brings films by local filmmakers—and those with connections to the state—to Salt Lake audiences. The directors get to screen their work and talk about it, and it's a way for them to network with the local film community. For the rest of us, it's a chance to see the kind of cinema being made right here in Utah.
This particular edition focuses on short films by Latine filmmakers, with the program touching on grief, identity, and cultural resilience. The showcase also makes a point of highlighting work from historically underrepresented communities, including women, LGBTQIA2S+, Black, Indigenous, POC, and disabled filmmakers, as well as films fiscally sponsored by the Utah Film Center. After the screenings, there's a Q&A moderated by Alex Vejar, so you'll get to hear from the people behind the films.

There's a lineup of shorts mentioned for this evening: Mucho Mucho, Siempre Siempre by Samuel Torres, SOMEHOW by Stephano Doors, There You Are by Alfonso Belloso, Backbeats by Julian Acosta, and El Puesto: Un ritual de memoria compartida by Stephanie Garcia. Just a heads-up that the program hasn't been officially confirmed for this edition, so that list might shift a bit.
It's all happening at the Utah Film Center, 375 W 400 N (west entrance) in Salt Lake City. Admission is free, but you'll need to RSVP first.
