Annual fall concert of the University of Utah Campus Symphony with music by Mozart, W.G. Still and more.
The University of Utah Campus Symphony takes the stage at Libby Gardner Hall on Wednesday, November 11, for their annual fall concert. It's the university's campus-wide orchestra, so the players come from across the whole campus, not just the music department. The performance runs from 7:30 to 9:30 PM.
The program puts two very different names side by side. You'll hear Mozart, the high-classical sound most of us recognize, and W.G. Still, the first African American composer to have a symphony performed by a major American orchestra. Still's work brings a distinct American voice to the evening, and the two together give you a good sense of the range the symphony covers. There's more on the bill beyond those two, so it's a full night of music.
Libby Gardner Hall is right on campus at 1375 East Presidents Circle in Salt Lake City. Since this is the annual fall concert, it's one of the main dates the orchestra puts on the calendar for the semester.
