The Utah Museum of Fine Arts joins the 34th annual PBS Utah reading marathon with reading and art activities for families.
The Utah Museum of Fine Arts is bringing a session to the Salt Lake City Main Library on Saturday, October 24, from 10 AM to 1 PM. It's part of the 34th annual PBS Utah reading marathon and kickoff party, so the whole thing is built around reading and art. The museum is taking its part of the marathon to the library, which makes it a pretty easy spot to drop into on a Saturday morning.
The session is open to families, and the activity is simple enough to jump into without any prep: you'll be hunting for poetry in old books and using what you find as inspiration for your own visual and written art. It's a mix of reading and making, so you can spend as much time on the poetry side as you do on the art side. If you've got kids with you, it's a good way to get them reading and creating at the same time.
Because it's part of the larger PBS Utah reading marathon, this is just one piece of a bigger citywide push for reading. The museum's session is held indoors at the library, and it's aimed at families, so it's a low-pressure way to spend a few hours. You can come for the reading, stay for the art, or just hang out for a bit and see what you end up making.
