Salt Lake City singer-songwriter Trip Van Winkle performs live at Heart & Soul.
Trip Van Winkle plays Heart & Soul on Thursday, October 15. He's a Salt Lake City-based singer-songwriter who works in indie folk, Americana, and alternative rock, and the set will be built around his own story-driven songs.
Van Winkle didn't start here. He was raised in Monterey, California, and sang at Carnegie Hall before spending years writing and performing in New York and later in Utah. That mix of coasts and cities shows up in his music, which he describes as exploring love, loss, hope, and human connection. He lists John Mayer, The Shins, Coldplay, and Fleet Foxes as influences, and you can hear those names in the way he balances folk roots with a broader indie-rock sound.
There's a specific piece of his history that's back in the spotlight this year. In 2026, he released the 10th Anniversary Edition of Batti Ayo (Hey Nepal), a song inspired by the time he lived in Nepal. It's a track that's held a place in his catalog for a decade, and this new edition brings it back to the front of the set.
