Free community art workshop to make symbolic DĂa de Muertos decorations, led by artist NoemĂ Hernández-Balcázar, with all materials provided.
NoemĂ Hernández-Balcázar is leading a free community art workshop at the Salt Lake City Public Library Chapman Branch on Saturday, October 31. The session is called Symbols of DĂa, and the focus is on making symbolic DĂa de Muertos decorations.
If you've ever wanted to put together your own altar or just wanted to understand the imagery that goes into one, this is a good place to start. The whole point is to make decorations that carry meaning—the kinds of things that usually show up on an ofrenda during DĂa de Muertos. It's a community workshop, so you'll be working alongside other people in the room rather than just watching a demonstration.
One of the best parts is that all the materials are provided, so you don't have to worry about buying your own supplies beforehand. You just show up and get to work. Whether you're an experienced artist or someone who hasn't touched a craft project in years, that's the beauty of a community workshop like this—it's open to everyone, and you leave with something you made yourself.

It's all happening on October 31, the same day as Halloween, at 2 PM. The workshop is free, and it's held at the Chapman Branch of the Salt Lake City Public Library, located at 577 South 900 West. If you're around that part of town on a Saturday afternoon, it's an easy way to spend a couple of hours making something for the season.
