Free Sunday organ recitals by members of the organ staff and volunteer organists in The Tabernacle on Temple Square.
The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is bringing back its Sunday organ recitals at The Tabernacle starting November 1, with a run that carries through the end of the year. The recitals happen every Sunday from 2 PM to 2:30 PM on November 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and December 6, 13, 20, 27. It's a half-hour set, so it's an easy one to drop into on a Sunday afternoon without taking up your whole day.
For more than a century, visitors to Temple Square have been able to enjoy daily recitals featuring the square's famous pipe organs—first in the Tabernacle and, since 2000, also in the Conference Center. These concerts are given by members of the organ staff and by volunteer organists, who choose a wide range of selections to show off the instruments' broad palette of colors and their majestic power. Because the programs change, you can come back multiple weeks and hear something different each time.
The series is presented by The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, a 360-member chorus of volunteer men and women that has performed at World's Fairs, U.S. presidential inaugurations, and acclaimed concert halls from Australia and Europe to Asia and the Middle East. They've been called "America's Choir," and while the choir itself isn't the focus of these particular recitals, they're the ones keeping the tradition going.
