Free Sunday organ recitals played by members of the Tabernacle organ staff and volunteer organists, open to all ages.
The Tabernacle on Temple Square is hosting its Sunday organ recitals throughout the fall and winter, with the next one this Sunday, October 18. It's a short, half-hour program that runs from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM, and admission is free. All ages are welcome, so it's an easy one to bring the kids along for if you're out on a Sunday afternoon.
The recitals are part of a long tradition here. The pipe organs on Temple Square are played daily by members of the organ staff and by volunteer organists, and people have been coming to the Tabernacle to hear them for more than a century. Since 2000, the recitals have also been staged in the Conference Center, so there are a couple of ways to catch them depending on where you are.
The repertoire varies from one recital to the next, and it's chosen to show off the instruments' breadth of color and their majestic power. Because the programs change, you can come back multiple times and hear something different each time. If you're planning to go, the Tabernacle is at 50 West North Temple in Salt Lake City, and you can enter through doors 11 or 18.

This Sunday is just one of several coming up. The recitals continue through the end of the year on November 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, and then on December 6, 13, 20, and 27. They all run from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM, and admission is always free.
