Annual dog walk and community festival by Best Friends Animal Society to save homeless pets, featuring live music, pet games and vendor booths.
Strut Your Mutt returns to Liberty Park on Saturday, October 17, from 11 AM to 3 PM. It's the annual dog walk and community festival put on by Best Friends Animal Society, and it's coming back to Salt Lake Cityβthe place where it all began. Over the years, the walk has strutted through 17 different cities, and there's even been a virtual fundraising edition for those who couldn't make it in person.
Best Friends CEO Julie Castle describes the event as her launchpad into animal welfare. In more than 30 years, it's raised more than $13.7 million, and every dollar goes directly to spay/neuter programs, adoption events, foster programs, veterinary care, lifesaving transports, and other lifesaving activities. The whole point is to save homeless pets across the U.S., so when you register, you're contributing to that.
It works as a festival, too, so you don't have to just walk and go home. There's live music, doggie treat stations, interactive pet games, photo booths, and booths from local vendors. You'll also find rescue organizations and pet care exhibits on site, and a 'Paws & Prizes' costume contest for the dogs. It's the kind of day where you can bring your dog and spend a few hours hanging out with other people and their pets.
