Live show by Slow Pulp at The Complex in Salt Lake City.
Slow Pulp play The Complex on Wednesday, October 21, their only Salt Lake City date on this run. It's a single-act bill, so they're the only name on the poster for the night.
If you're not already familiar, Slow Pulp is the project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Veretta Compton. The music is built around her voice and a slow-burning, melodic sensibility that keeps the songs grounded even when they drift into more atmospheric territory. It's the kind of indie rock that takes its time, letting the melodies breathe rather than rushing through them, and that's exactly how it works live, too.
Since this is a single-act show, the whole set is theirs. You'll get a full night of their material, with the songs given plenty of room to stretch out. It's a good way to hear the record as a whole rather than just a handful of tracks squeezed in between other bands.
