Rock band Slothrust plays The Urban Lounge with its dystopian theatre rock sound, in a 21+ show.
Slothrust play The Urban Lounge on Friday, November 6, as part of their Dystopian Theatre Tour. They're sharing the bill with Um and Jennifer, and it's a 21+ show.
If you've followed them for a while, you know they've spent the last decade getting more ambitious. They started with the lo-fi Feels Your Pain back in 2012, and by 2021 they'd reached Parallel Timeline, produced by longtime Garbage engineer Billy Bush. Along the way, they lost a member and became a duo: drummer and multi-instrumentalist Will Gorin and guitarist and vocalist Leah Wellbaum.
Their debut for Equal Vision Records, What They Grow in the Garden, is the record they're touring now. They describe it as "dystopian theatre rock," and its twelve tracks have drawn comparisons to a grungier Queen or the best album Muse never made. It's a good way to frame what they're doing—rock with a theatrical streak, a bit of grit, and a lot of room for the two of them to fill out the sound.
