Annual summer parody of life in Utah staged by the Salt Lake Acting Company in its Upstairs Theatre cabaret space.
Salt Lake Acting Company brings back its annual summer parody, SLAC's Summer Show 2027, running from June 23 through August 15 at the Salt Lake Acting Company in Salt Lake City. Opening night is Friday, June 25, at 7:30 PM. The show is a fresh production created each year by Utahns for Utahns, billed as the company's summer party and a chance to laugh at the peculiar, passionate, and downright perplexing parts of life in the Beehive State. It runs about two hours with an intermission and is recommended for mature audiences.
The production takes place in the Upstairs Theatre, which converts into a 206-seat cabaret space. The venue itself is the historic 19th Ward House of Worship, built in 1896 by early LDS settlers and home to SLAC since 1978. The company got its start in a Unitarian Church in 1969, and since 1970 it has staged Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwrights while commissioning many world-premiere plays. Founder Ed Gryska said the aim was to present new plays audiences had never heard of, balancing the traditional with the new.
