Singer-songwriter Shawn James plays The Urban Lounge with opening act Gravedancer on his Flew Too Close To The Sun Tour.
Shawn James brings his Flew Too Close To The Sun Tour to The Urban Lounge on Wednesday, October 28, with Gravedancer opening. It's a Salt Lake City stop on a tour that's taking him across the country, and the night is presented by S&S Presents.
If you're coming to him through The Last of Us, you're not alone. His song "Through the Valley" first got global attention in the trailer for The Last of Us Part II back in 2016, and it later appeared in the HBO series in 2025. Beyond that one track, though, James is a singer-songwriter who works across a wide range of styles—acoustic, rock, soul, country, folk, southern gothic, and midwest americana. He's known for raw, soul-stirring vocals that carry through all of them, and he usually performs with a full band rather than solo.
One thing that comes up often from people who've seen him is that he stays after the show to chat with the crowd. Between his vocal range and those personal interactions, that's a good part of what people remember about his live sets. Gravedancer opens the night, so there's more than just the headliner on the bill.

The show starts at 7 PM at The Urban Lounge, 241 South 500 East. Tickets are $40 in advance and $46 on the day of the show, with a $171 VIP meet and greet option if you want to be one of the people chatting with him after the set. It's a 21+ show.
