World's largest family history and genealogy conference, with in-person sessions and an expo hall at the Salt Palace and a free online experience.
RootsTech 2027 runs from Thursday, March 4, to Saturday, March 6, at the Salt Palace Convention Center downtown. It's the world's largest family history and genealogy conference, hosted by FamilySearch International, and it's open to people of all ages and backgrounds. The hybrid format means you can attend in person at the Salt Palace or join online from anywhere in the world. Registration is required for both, but the virtual experience is free for everyone.
This year's theme is Celebrate!, and it's tied to a bigger local milestone. The conference is designed to lead into the celebrations for the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is scheduled to open its doors for a six-month open house starting April 5, 2027. The theme mirrors the temple's own Rejoice in Christ.
Beyond the sessions, the nearby FamilySearch Library will offer experiences tied to the temple's history. FamilySearch director of events Jonathan Wing describes family history as a living celebration of the past, present, and future. If you're in town for the conference, the library is a natural next stop.
