Monthly evening of Sufi poetry by the Rumi Poetry Club, held on the first Tuesday of every month this fall.
Golden Braid Books is hosting Autumn with Rumi, a series of evenings celebrating Sufi poetry that runs through the fall, with the next gathering on Tuesday, November 3. It's part of a recurring sequence—the first Tuesday of every month this season—so if you miss this one, there's another coming shortly after.
The evenings are run by the Rumi Poetry Club, which Rasoul Shams founded in 2007 to mark the 800th anniversary of Jalâluddin Rumi's birth. Shams first came to Rumi's poems in his Persian classes as a young boy in Iran, and he's spent the years since living and studying in India, Japan, and the United States. He's written several books on the poet: Rumi: The Art of Loving, Rumi Essays, The Words of Rumi, and Through Love Pain is Healed.
Along with Golden Braid Books, the club has spent years celebrating the poetry and teachings of Rumi and other poets of the heart, nature, and spiritual life. The focus is Sufi poetry, so you can expect the evening to center on Rumi's work and the tradition it comes from. If you're already familiar with Rumi, it's a chance to hear the poems read aloud in a group; if you've never read him, it's a low-stakes way to get a sense of what he's about.
