Live cinematic concert marking the 30th anniversary of Baz Luhrmann's 'Romeo + Juliet', with a 12-piece hybrid ensemble playing the soundtrack in sync with the film.
Romeo + Juliet in Concert comes to Delta Hall at the Eccles Theater on Sunday, February 7, 2027. It's a live cinematic experience: Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet plays on the big screen while a 12-piece hybrid ensemble performs the soundtrack and score live, in sync with the film. The night is built around that pairing—the movie on screen and the music happening right in front of you.
The film itself is Luhrmann's 1996 reimagining of Shakespeare's tragedy, which moved the story from Renaissance Italy to the modern setting of Verona Beach. It starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes as the leads, with John Leguizamo, Paul Rudd, and Harold Perrineau in the supporting cast. This particular concert marks the 30th anniversary of that release.
Part of what made the movie stand out was its soundtrack, which pulled from some of the biggest acts of the nineties. You'll hear Radiohead, The Cardigans, and Garbage, with songs like "Kissing You," "Lovefool," and "Talk Show Host" among them. The live staging puts the film on a big screen and has the 12-piece hybrid ensemble play the score in time, rounded out by atmospheric lighting and immersive production.
