Symphony concert with the Utah Symphony and three vocalists celebrating the songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein, directed by Doug LaBrecque.
The Utah Symphony is celebrating the partnership of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II with two concerts at Maurice Abravanel Hall on Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21, 2026. Both start at 7:30 PM. The program pulls from the shows that defined their run: The Sound of Music, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and Oklahoma!.
Broadway veteran Doug LaBrecque directs the evening, and the vocalists are Sarah Uriarte Berry, Lisa Vroman and John Riesen. They'll be backed by the full symphony, so these aren't just a few singers with a small bandβit's the whole orchestra on the stage. The organizers describe the night as whimsical and high-energy, pairing those voices with the full emotional weight of the symphony.
Rodgers and Hammerstein's partnership shaped a generation of musical theatre, and the setlist reaches across their biggest works. You'll hear the songs from The Sound of Music and Oklahoma! alongside Carousel, South Pacific and The King and I, so it covers a good stretch of what they did together. The hall seats 2,768, and the performance is recommended for ages five and older, with no babes in arms.
