One-night showcase of four original short films by Utah's next generation of storytellers, pairing two documentaries with two fiction films.
PitchNic returns to The Grand Theatre on Thursday, November 5, for its 24th annual world premiere. Presented by Spy Hop, it's a one-night-only showcase that gives a platform to Utah's next generation of storytellers. The program typically pairs two documentaries with two fiction films, and this year's lineup follows that same pattern: four original short films from young filmmakers in the state.
These aren't just student exercises. The films in the PitchNic program usually grapple with identity, family, aging, mental health, friendship, and grief—the kind of heavy, personal territory that filmmakers find their voice in. They're also not just staying in Salt Lake; these shorts have traveled the world, screening at festivals from Hollywood to Halifax before they land here for their premiere. It's a good way to see what the younger filmmaking community in Utah is actually working on.

Because of the subject matter, the evening is recommended for ages 13 and over, and there's a no babies-in-arms policy, so it's more of a night for adults and teens than a family outing. The screening runs from 6 PM to 9 PM at The Grand Theatre, 1575 S State St, and admission is free.
