Keynote artist talk by Pedro Reyes, followed by the opening reception for the exhibition 'Artists Against the Bomb'.
Pedro Reyes is coming to the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art on Friday, October 16, for an artist talk that kicks off a new exhibition. Reyes is a Mexico City-based artist and activist whose work sits at the intersection of art, architecture, performance and civic life. He'll be speaking in the museum's auditorium from 6 to 7 PM, and that talk opens Artists Against the Bomb, a traveling exhibition organized by Estudio Pedro Reyes in collaboration with the Nobel Peace Prize recipient ICAN.
The show is a big one: more than 250 works that track global disarmament movements. It's not just a local opening, eitherβit's part of a traveling exhibition, so this is one of the stops on its route. The evening is split into two parts: the talk itself, held in the auditorium with a strict capacity limit of 150 people, and an opening reception that runs from 7 to 9 PM across the galleries, with food, drinks and open access to the art. If you're planning to catch the talk, you'll want to get there early or RSVP, because that 150-person cap is a hard limit.
There's more to see that night, too. Artists Against the Bomb opens alongside a new solo exhibition by AIR artist Steven Chodoriwsky, so you can move from the disarmament show into Chodoriwsky's work without leaving the building. Between the talk, the reception, and the two exhibitions, it's a full night of art in one spot.
