A live Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying stage production blending improv and storytelling where the audience picks the quest and heroes complete it in 60 minutes.
Opening Knights: Side Quest is playing its final night at the Alliance Theater on Friday, October 16. It's a theatrical roleplaying production that blends improv and storytelling, adapted from the longer-running Opening Knights campaign series by Dungeon XP, an independent entity not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast.
This is a shortened version of the original series, and the audience gets to pick the quest. From there, the heroes have to complete it in 60 minutes or less. The room doesn't just watch, either: the audience rolls the dice, provides the sound effects, and plays the monsters when combat breaks out. Dungeons & Dragons and related trademarks are owned by Wizards of the Coast LLC.
The show is staged at the Alliance Theater, the newest addition to the Utah Arts Alliance programs. It's a multi-functional venue in the quiet, elegant, stand-alone space of historic Trolley Square, with two performance spaces and a full stage package of light, sound, and live-streaming. It's run by theatre people as an affordable home for Utah's arts community.
