The Utah Symphony and its chorus invite the community to join in a sing-along performance of Handel's Messiah, with the famous 'Hallelujah' chorus.
The Utah Symphony brings back the Messiah Sing-In for two nights at Maurice Abravanel Hall on Saturday, November 28, and Sunday, November 29, both starting at 7:30 PM. It's one of the symphony's oldest holiday traditions, and it falls over Thanksgiving weekend, so it's an easy way to kick off the season.
The whole point of the Sing-In is that you don't just sit and listen. The orchestra, chorus, and vocal soloists perform Handel's Messiah, and the audience is invited to join in on the 'Hallelujah' chorus and other parts. It turns a standard concert into something you actually participate in, which is a different experience from just watching from your seat.
Austin McWilliams conducts and directs the chorus. The soloists are Hyein Hong on soprano, Isabelle Kosempa on mezzo-soprano, Colin Miller on tenor, and J. Andrew Garratt Jr. on baritone, all performing alongside the Utah Symphony Chorus and the Utah Symphony. Between the four soloists, the chorus, and the full orchestra, there's a lot of sound filling the hall.
