Utah professional premiere of the Tina Fey musical Mean Girls, directed by Shelley Butler and choreographed by Banji Aborisade at Pioneer Theatre Company.
Mean Girls opens at the Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre on January 29, 2027, and runs through February 13. It's the Utah professional premiere of the musical, produced by Pioneer Theatre Company.
The show is a stage adaptation of the Paramount Pictures film, with a book by Tina Fey, music by Jeff Richmond, and lyrics by Nell Benjamin. It follows Cady Heron, the new girl at North Shore High School, who tries to fit in and falls prey to the school's three 'frenemies,' led by the ruthless Regina George. The production is directed by Shelley Butler, with choreography by Banji Aborisade. It runs 120 minutes.
If you're coming to it from the movie, the musical keeps the same story but adds a full score. The Broadway production it's based on was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Musical, and it's picked up some strong reviews along the way: Billboard called it a show that "defies expectations and deftly stands on its own two heels," and the NY Daily News described it as a "fizzy blast that tickles the ears, eyes and funny bone."
