Live show by New York singer-songwriter Margaret Glaspy with support from Olive Klug at The Urban Lounge.
Margaret Glaspy plays The Urban Lounge on Monday, November 9, with Olive Klug opening. Glaspy is a New York-based singer and songwriter, and she's toured with the likes of Spoon and Wilco.
Two of her full-length records give you a good sense of how she works. Echo The Diamond was her third, and she self-produced it with co-production from her partner, guitarist Julian Lage. She recorded it with drummer and percussionist David King of The Bad Plus and bassist Chris Morrissey. Then there's I Am Both, an 11-track album she recorded live in three days at New York City's Reservoir Studios. That one was produced by Joe Henry and featured Jay Bellerose, Patrick Warren, and Ross Gallagher.
Between the two, you can see the different ways she approaches a record: one self-produced and built with a steady band, the other captured live in a few days with a different set of collaborators. Both sit within the singer-songwriter tradition she's built her career around.
