Opening of the Magnolia Bakery, the New York cupcake and banana pudding chain from 'Sex and the City', in Foothill Village.
Magnolia Bakery is opening its second Salt Lake City location on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Foothill Village, 1400 Foothill Drive, Suite 104. The doors open at 10 AM, following a ribbon-cutting.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, the cupcakes might. Magnolia is a New York City cult favorite that got its start in the West Village back in 1996, and its cupcakes ended up in Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada. But it's not just about the cupcakes—the bakery is just as known for its banana pudding, cookies, and pies. This new spot is the brand's second Utah location, coming on the heels of the Holladay Hills store that opened earlier this year, which the company bills as its first domestic franchise site.
It's a big moment for the bakery, too. This year marks its 30th anniversary, and it's grown from that single West Village shop to 11 locations across New York, with more in West Hollywood, the Chicago loop, Kentucky, and Ohio. It's also gone international, with openings in India, Kuwait, the Philippines, Qatar, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates. So, while it's a New York institution, it's become a global name over the last three decades.
