Monthly SLUG Magazine showcase of local bands, DJs and comedians, with each show themed around a specific genre or style.
Localized returns to Kilby Court on Thursday, November 19, from 6 PM to 9 PM. It's the latest installment of the monthly showcase run by SLUG Magazine, the city's local music and culture publication. The series is built around giving local bands, DJs, and comedians a platform to play for friends and family, with the goal of helping new artists push their craft to the next level. More than a few bands that started at Localized have gone on to become headlining acts.
Each show is themed around a specific genre or style—hip hop, art rock, or local punk, for example—so the bill changes from month to month. The city's subcultural scene has a following of its own, something that's been recognized in part thanks to James Merendino's late-1990s cult classic SLC Punk!. Localized fits right into that tradition, keeping the focus on the artists coming up in the city rather than the big names.
