Return of the long-running musical Les Misérables to the Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre, directed and choreographed by Karen Azenberg.
Les Misérables returns to the Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre from April 30 to May 15, 2027. It's a new production of the Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg musical, with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, directed and choreographed by Karen Azenberg. The show runs nightly Monday through Saturday, with 2 PM matinees on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
If you're not familiar with it, Les Misérables is one of the longest-running musicals in the world and a winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Set in 19th-century France, it follows Jean Valjean, who is released after nineteen years of unjust imprisonment. He breaks parole to start a new life, and from there he's relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert. It's a big, sweeping story that's held its own for decades.
This particular production is a homecoming of sorts. It returns to the Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre twenty years after its regional debut at Pioneer Theatre Company, and it remains the best-selling production in the company's 65-year history.
