Concert by the Jupiter String Quartet, a Banff and Fischoff competition winner, in the Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City's 61st season.
The Jupiter String Quartet play Libby Gardner Concert Hall on Thursday, November 19, as part of the Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City's 61st season. The concert starts at 7:30 PM, and if you want a bit more context before the music begins, there's a pre-concert talk at 6:30 PM in Room 302.
For those who aren't familiar, the Jupiter String Quartet is a heavy hitter in the chamber music world. The New Yorker described them as "an ensemble of eloquent intensity... one of the mainstays of the American chamber-music scene," and that's not just a nice turn of phrase. They've won the Banff International String Quartet Competition and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and they've been awarded an Avery Fisher Career Grant. They also serve as artists-in-residence at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, so they're as much about teaching and residency as they are about the stage.
One of the best parts of the evening happens after the music. At 9:25 PM, there's a dessert reception in the Bastian Atrium, which gives you a chance to hang out and talk about what you just heard rather than heading straight for the parking lot. The whole thing is held at Libby Gardner Concert Hall on the University of Utah campus, located at 1375 East Presidents Circle in Salt Lake City.

Tickets are $35 plus fees for a single seat, or $10 plus fees for general admission. If you're bringing kids, anyone 18 and under gets in for free, and University of Utah students with a valid ID also get in for free. The pre-concert talk is at 6:30 PM, and the main performance follows at 7:30 PM.
