Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

JAKS Youth Theatre Company brings Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center starting Friday, February 12, 2027. It runs through Saturday, February 20, so you've got a good window to catch it over a couple of weeks rather than just one night.

If you know the story, you're already halfway there. The musical reimagines the Biblical account of Joseph, his father Jacob, his eleven brothers, and that coat of many colors. It's one of those shows that's stayed in the repertoire for decades, and this production is recommended for all ages—children 13 months and under don't need a ticket, so it's an easy one to bring the whole family to. The show runs 105 minutes, which includes a 15-minute intermission, so you're in and out in under two hours.

It's playing in the Jeanné Wagner Theatre, part of the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center at 138 Broadway. The center itself has a bit of local history behind it: it opened as the dream of the Performing Arts Coalition, an alliance of local arts organizations, on the site of the childhood home of Rose and Harry Wagner, who ran the Wagner Bag Company. Their son, Izzi Wagner, became the naming donor and named the Jeanné Wagner Theatre after his wife, a dancer, and the Leona Wagner Black Box after his sister.

Beyond this run, the center serves as a home for several resident companies, including Plan-B Theatre Company, Repertory Dance Theatre, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, and the Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation. It also becomes a Sundance Film Festival venue every January, so it's a spot that sees a lot of different kinds of work throughout the year.
