University of Utah jazz guitar ensemble performs arrangements of jazz standards with improvisation by each member.
The Jazz Guitar Ensemble plays Dumke Recital Hall on Monday, November 16, from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. It's a University of Utah concert, presented by the Jazz Program and the School of Music, and it's billed as a campus-wide event, so you don't have to be a student to drop in.
The ensemble works through arrangements of jazz standards, and the format is built around the individual: on each tune, every member takes a turn improvising a solo while the rest of the group plays along. It's a good way to hear how different players approach the same song, and it means the spotlight moves around the stage rather than staying on one person.

Behind the scenes, the group is directed by Dr. Josiah Boornazian and Dr. Steven Heffner. Both are part of the University of Utah Jazz Program and the School of Music, and the ensemble is one of the program's performing groups. The concert is free, and it runs for an hour, from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM, at Dumke Recital Hall (DGH), 1375 East President's Circle in Salt Lake City.
