Free guided tour of the exhibition 'For the Future: Collecting at the UMFA 2001-2026' led by UMFA curator Emily Lawhead.
Emily Lawhead leads an Insights Tour at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts on Friday, November 6, from 12 PM to 12:45 PM. The tour walks through For the Future: Collecting at the UMFA 2001-2026, an exhibition marking the 25th anniversary of the Marcia and John Price Museum Building by showing the museum's most notable acquisitions from the last quarter century.
Lawhead is the associate curator of Modern and Contemporary art at the UMFA, and she holds a PhD in the History of Art & Architecture with research focused on the intersections of art and technology. On this tour, she focuses on the contemporary works and on how the collection has grown through relationships with living artists, as well as Utah's long contribution to contemporary art, particularly Land art. At the museum, she also spearheads salt, a series of site-specific commissions in the Great Hall.
The Insights Tours are built on that same idea: seeing the art through the eyes of the staff who live with it every day. Rather than a general overview, you get a look at the collection from someone who works with these pieces and the artists behind them. The tour runs for 45 minutes, and registration is required.
