Hands-on workshop at the Natural History Museum of Utah for ScienceFest to learn botany basics and create abstract art with alcohol inks on leaves.
The Natural History Museum of Utah is hosting the Inked Leaf Bookmarks Workshop on Sunday, November 8, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. It's part of ScienceFest, a two-day celebration of the science happening in Utah that fills the museum with hands-on activities and experiences for all ages. If you're around that weekend, this is one of the sessions you can drop into.
The workshop combines a bit of botany with some abstract art. You'll start by picking up some botany basics, and from there you'll get an introduction to alcohol inks. You'll use the ink to create an abstract piece, which you then turn into a unique, permanent leaf bookmark. It's a good way to spend an hour if you're into making things by hand and want to walk away with something you can actually use.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Salt Lake City and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

One thing to keep in mind before you go: the ink is described as vibrant and permanent, so the museum advises wearing clothes you don't mind getting ink on. It's the kind of thing that doesn't come out easily, so maybe leave your favorite sweater at home and go with something you're comfortable working in. The session runs from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the Natural History Museum of Utah, 301 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City, UT 84108.
