Voodoo Theatre Company's production of Will Arbery's Pulitzer Prize finalist play about four young conservatives at a backyard after-party in Wyoming.
Voodoo Theatre Company is bringing Heroes of the Fourth Turning to Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center this month. It's a play by Will Arbery, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, and it's running from October 15 to 25, with performances on the 15th through the 18th and again from the 22nd to the 25th. You'll find it in Studio 5400 at 2525 Taylorsville Blvd in Taylorsville.
The play is set in Wyoming and follows four young conservatives who gather at a backyard after-party to toast their mentor, Gina, who's just been named president of a tiny Catholic college. What starts as a homecoming quickly unravels into spiritual chaos and clashing generational politics, until the night feels less like a celebration and more like a vicious fight to be understood. Arbery describes it as a fierce, empathetic portrait of Catholic conservatism from the inside, one that exposes the fractures of faith, identity, and generational unrest in a country tearing at its seams.

Behind the production is Voodoo Theatre Company, with Jack Cobabe directing and Emily Kitterer as assistant director. The cast is made up of local Salt Lake City actors, so you're seeing people from right here in the valley on stage. The show runs 135 minutes, which includes a 15-minute intermission, and it's recommended for ages 8 and up. If you're planning to go, keep in mind the gap in the schedule: there are no performances on the 19th, 20th, or 21st, so you'll want to pick a date in either the first or second half of the run.
