Chamber music concert by the Frautschi, Manasse, and Nakamatsu Trio, with a pre-concert talk, at the Libby Gardner Concert Hall on the University of Utah campus.
Jennifer Frautschi, Jon Manasse, and Jon Nakamatsu are performing at the Libby Gardner Concert Hall on Wednesday, March 17, 2027. This concert is part of the Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City's 61st season. The evening is structured to begin with a pre-concert talk at 6:30 PM, which leads into the main performance running from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
The trio brings together three distinct musical backgrounds. Jennifer Frautschi is a two-time Grammy nominee and a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant. She is joined by clarinetist Jon Manasse, who has been described by the New York Times as "absolutely first-rate." Manasse currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival and holds faculty positions at both Juilliard and the Eastman School of Music. His work with the other members of this trio highlights the collaborative nature of the Chamber Music Society's current season.
Rounding out the trio is pianist Jon Nakamatsu. He is the 1997 Gold Medalist of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, remaining the only American to achieve that honor since 1981. During his performances, Nakamatsu plays on a 1722 Stradivarius, known as the 'ex-Cadiz'. While this performance features the trio, Manasse and Nakamatsu have a long history of working together, having toured as the Manasse/Nakamatsu Duo since 2004. Their established rapport as a duo adds a specific dynamic to this trio performance, as they have been touring together for over two decades.
