Record release by Salt Lake City trio Forty Nine Hudson, with 1996 demos and new material at UMOCA.
Forty Nine Hudson are playing the UMOCA Auditorium on Saturday, November 7, for a record release that reaches back further than you might expect. The trio—John Burdick, Daren Gardner and Chris Purdie—is putting out new music alongside a collection of demos dating back to 1996, so the night pulls from two very different eras of the band.
Forty Nine Hudson came out of the post-rock and punk scene of the 1990s, releasing their first album, For Weeks At a Time, in 1998. Now, nearly thirty years later, they're adding to that discography with those 1996 demos and new material, including the single "It Felt Warm ... It Felt Blue/Lifted." The sound is built on layered guitars and expansive soundscapes, and it sits with the modern rise of post-grunge and shoegaze. Around here, they've been a local inspiration for acts like Nicole Canaan, Worlds Worst and Summer 2000.
Because the set draws from both the new stuff and the early demos, you'll hear the band's recent work alongside recordings from the very beginning. It's a record release that looks at where they started and where they are now at the same time.
