Utah premiere of the 2025 Tony Award-winning satire Eureka Day by Rajiv Joseph, directed by Karen Azenberg and presented by Pioneer Theatre Company.
Pioneer Theatre Company brings Eureka Day to the Meldrum Theatre at the Einar Nielsen Field House from March 12 to 27, 2027. It's the Utah premiere of the Tony Award-winning satire, written by Rajiv Joseph and directed by Karen Azenberg, with Eli Mayer and Khiry Walker on the production side. The play arrives fresh from Broadway, where it won the 2025 Tony Award for Best Play.
The story is set at Berkeley's ultra-progressive Eureka Day School, a place where every decision is made by consensus. That culture of inclusiveness works fine until a mumps outbreak sends it spiraling into chaos. From there, parents and board members clash over vaccines, personal freedoms, and viral misinformation. It's a sly look at what happens when a community built on agreement hits a wall it can't talk its way around. Time Out called it "an invigorating shot in the arm," and the Observer described it as "sharp and infectiously funny."
Rajiv Joseph is a founding member of the New York theatre company The Fire Department, a former Lark Playwriting Fellow, and a Dramatists Guild Fellow. He also spent three years in the Peace Corps in Senegal.
