Concert by the Amsterdam string quartet Dudok Quartet Amsterdam, with Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich quartets and new commissions, part of the Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City's 2026/27 season.
Dudok Quartet Amsterdam plays Libby Gardner Concert Hall on Wednesday, February 3, 2027, from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. It's part of the Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City's 2026/27 season.
The program centers on two Russian string quartets. They'll perform Tchaikovsky's String Quartet No. 2 in F major, Op. 22, which runs about 36 minutes, and Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 3 in F major, Op. 73, which takes around 33. The quartet will also play some of their own arrangements.
The Dudok Quartet is based in Amsterdam and takes its name from the Dutch architect Willem Marinus Dudok (1884-1974), who played music in his spare time. The Guardian has called them "stylish, open-minded and adventurous." They've won several international competitions and received a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, and they've played at the Royal Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall and the BBC Proms. They're known for pairing pre-1900 music played on period instruments with new commissions, and they've worked with composers like Kaija Saariaho, Joey Roukens, Steve Reich and Celia Swart. Since 2021, they've recorded for Rubicon Classics. The instruments they play are on loan from the Dutch Musical Instrument Foundation.
