Drawing and Mixed Media Art Classes at the Visual Art Institute

The Visual Art Institute is running drawing and mixed media art classes from September 8 through December 7, 2026, at their studio at 2900 South 300 West in Salt Lake City. These aren't one-off workshops; they're individual sessions held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, so you can pick the day that actually fits your schedule.

The classes are aimed at beginner and intermediate teens and adults aged 12 and over, and they lean on fun, easy techniques to explore a variety of drawings and images. If you've been wanting to get into art but aren't sure where to start, this is a low-pressure way to do it. You'll work through drawing and mixed media, and since it's a series of sessions rather than a single class, you've got plenty of time to find your footing.

It helps to know what the Visual Art Institute is: a nonprofit art program that offers fine art and design classes for children, teens, and adults along the Wasatch Front. Beyond drawing and mixed media, they teach 2D and 3D digital art, painting, printmaking, and ceramics, and they also do birthday parties and summer camps. The drawing and mixed media classes are just one part of a much larger program, so if you find you like it, there's plenty more to move into.

Tuition assistance scholarships are available in limited numbers each term, with applications in both Spanish and English. If you're signing up for more than one class, there's a multi-class discount of up to 10% per class when you register through the front office. Prices vary by class, so it's best to check in with them to see which one works for you.
