Free public reading by poet Divya Victor, presented by the University of Utah Guest Writers Series.
Divya Victor reads at the Finch Lane Gallery at the Art Barn on Thursday, October 22, at 7 PM. The reading is part of the University of Utah Guest Writers Series, which brings writers to Salt Lake City throughout the year.
Victor is a Tamil-American poet, essayist, and educator. She's a professor of English and creative writing at Michigan State University, where she also directs the creative writing program. Her poetry collection Curb won both the PEN Open Book Award and the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award, and she's published Kith, Natural Subjects, Things to Do with your Mouth, and several other books. She also received a Creative Capital Award for Kin, a collection of essays coming soon from Graywolf.
Her life has spanned a few different borders, tooβshe's been a citizen of India, Singapore, and the United States. That kind of movement often finds its way into a writer's work, and it's a good thing to keep in mind before you sit down to listen.
