Distant, the four-piece downtempo deathcore band from Rotterdam, plays The Urban Lounge with Heavy//Hitter, Torn Open and Katywentmissing.
Distant play The Urban Lounge on Friday, November 27, starting at 7 PM. They're not coming alone: Heavy//Hitter, Torn Open, and Katywentmissing are all on the bill, so it's a full night of four bands rather than just one.
If you're not familiar with them, Distant is a four-piece downtempo deathcore band with members from Rotterdam and Bratislava. They've been around since 2014, and they've spent that time building their music around a fictional universe they call Tyrannotophia. It's not just a name for the albums; it's a whole world they've worked out over a decade. The EP Slither came out in 2015, followed by the full-length Tyrannotophia in 2019. Then came the three-part saga Aeons Of Oblivion in 2021, which arrived alongside a novel, The Rise of Tyrannotophia, that fleshes out the story. Their most recent album, Heritage, followed in 2023.
The lineup is Nouri Yetgin on guitar, Elmer Maurits on bass, Alan Grnja on vocals, and Rene Gerbrandij on drums. Between the two full-lengths, the EP, and the three-part saga, there's a fair amount of material to pull from for a single set.
