The Utah Symphony performs the score live while Disney's The Muppet Christmas Carol is shown on the big screen, creating a festive symphony experience for families.
The Utah Symphony is bringing Disney's The Muppet Christmas Carol to Maurice Abravanel Hall on Tuesday, December 22 and Wednesday, December 23, 2026. Both shows start at 7 PM. It's a live-to-picture screening: the movie plays on the big screen while the symphony performs the score live in the hall, presented under license by Disney Concerts.
The film is the Muppets' take on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, following Ebenezer Scrooge's journey from miser to miracle, with the Muppets providing the wit and warmth. The symphony plays along with the film's music as it happens, so the score you hear is coming from the stage rather than the movie's soundtrack. Conner Gray Covington conducts the orchestra for both nights.
There's a bit more to the evening than just the screening. Before the film starts, the First Tier Room at Abravanel Hall hosts a movie-trivia challenge, and the lobby has a glass of wine available. It's billed as a festive symphony experience, aimed at families and anyone returning to a childhood favorite. Age guidelines welcome audiences five and older, with no babes in arms.
