Weekly Wednesday stand-up open mic night at Wiseguys Downtown in The Gateway, with $5 cover for audience members.
Wiseguys Downtown holds its comedy open mic every Wednesday at 7 PM, and the next one is on November 20. It's at The Gateway in Salt Lake City, so it's easy to get to if you're already downtown.
An open mic works exactly how you'd expect: the stage is open to anyone who wants to get up and do a set. That means you'll see a mix of people. Some are regulars who've been working the same five minutes for months, some are first-timers who've never stepped on a stage before, and some are established comics testing out new bits before they go into a polished show. Because the lineup changes every week, no two Wednesdays are the same.
The night is pitched at anyone who's ever watched a comedian on television and thought, "I could do that." It's framed as a place to give stand-up a shot and potentially become the next big name in comedy, so if you've been sitting on a few jokes, this is where you actually get them in front of people. If you're not the one performing, you're there to watch a whole bunch of people trying to be funny in real time.
