Holiday lighting event with live music from Lane Changers, hot beverages, seasonal cocktails, stilt walkers and balloon twisters, with the display on view through December.
The Gateway kicks off its holiday season with Lights On!, the annual lighting event that turns the shopping district into a winter wonderland. It's on Saturday, November 14, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and the lights themselves go on at 8:15 PM. The whole thing centers around the Olympic Legacy Plaza at 10 North Rio Grande Street in Salt Lake City.
There's a fair amount to do before the lights actually come on. Lane Changers will be playing live music throughout the evening, and Flanker Kitchen + Sporting Club is handling the food and drink, with hot beverages, seasonal cocktails, and bites to keep you warm while you wait. There are also prizes to be won, stilt walkers moving through the crowd, and balloon twisters for the kids. If you're coming with a group, it's the kind of setup where you can hang out for a while and let the night build toward that 8:15 PM moment.
Once the lights are on, the plaza transforms into a Winter Wonderland filled with oversized woodland creatures and vibrant holiday lighting. The Gateway describes it as a place to stroll through, and it's meant to be a walkable experience rather than something you just watch from one spot. The display doesn't disappear when the opening night ends, either—it stays on view through December 31, so if you can't make the kickoff, you can still catch it later in the season.
