Weekly Sunday stand-up show hosted by Mega Pastor Adam Broud, built like a church service and aimed at people who have left religion.
Comedy Church is back at The Gateway on Sunday, December 13, in the Rickles Room. It's a stand-up show built like a church service, aimed at people who have left religion. Each night takes on a different theme through a post-religious lens — marriage, death, swearing, guilt, and more — with new jokes, new hymns, and different guest comics every time. Mega Pastor Adam Broud hosts, and the guest lineup changes from week to week.
The show runs in the Rickles Room, one of the three rooms at Wiseguys The Gateway in downtown Salt Lake City. It's an intimate 80-seat space, so you're close to the stage. The club has been a Wasatch Front staple since 2001, and it keeps a full schedule: there's an open mic every Wednesday in the Showroom and Comedy Rumble on Saturdays, alongside the Sunday show. Comedy Church is rated R and for ages 21 and over.
Because the theme and the guest comics change every night, no two services are the same. One week might focus on marriage, the next on death or guilt, with new material and new hymns to match. If you've gone before, you'll find a different set of jokes and a different group of comics on the bill. It's a weekly run, so if the December 13 date doesn't work, there are other Sundays to choose from.
