Concert by the Grammy-nominated Catalyst Quartet at the Libby Gardner Concert Hall on the University of Utah campus.
Catalyst Quartet plays the Libby Gardner Concert Hall on Tuesday, December 1, from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. The concert is part of the University of Utah's 61st season and the Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City's 2026/27 season.
Founded in 2010 by the Sphinx Organization, the Grammy-nominated quartet has spent the last sixteen years building a name on the national stage. Their Carnegie Hall debut earned a review from The New York Times that described their playing as "invariably energetic and finely burnished... playing with earthy vigor." Since then, they've performed at the Kennedy Center, Chicago's Harris Theater, and Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall.
Much of their reputation comes from their UNCOVERED recording series on Azica Records, a multi-volume project dedicated to championing overlooked composers of color. It's a landmark series that does more than just dig up old scores; it puts those composers back into the conversation. That focus on bringing neglected voices to the front is a good way to get a sense of what they're about.
